Prepping for Holiday

Outfit details:
Sleeve: Bik Bok. Shorts: H&M. ilk snodd: By Marlene Birger. Hat: Lindex. Bag: Alexander Wang. Platforms: Miu Miu

Summer holiday is just around the corner (at least for me!) In just a week I am heading for another adventurous trip to the United States. Ahhh! I am SO excited! Las Vegas and SoCal - here I come! As usual I put a lot of energy into packing the ultimate holiday wardrobe. The key is to prioritize your favorite items that matches easily, AND make room for shopping. Usually I end up with too much, but this time I will try really hard to pack light (as it gets, regarding the heavy studs on my Wang bag...)

Cheers for Norway!

Champagne and strawberries for breakfast - I can live with that!

Snapshot of my national costume, "Løkendrakt fra Østfold".
Hope everyone enjoys Constitution Day with champagne, ice cream, salmon and everything your tummy craves. I forgot to bring my camera along, thus these mobile pictures only.

Closet Therapy

Details: Jacket: Bik Bok (2005 I think), Belt and skirt: H&M.
Finally, I got to move the last two suitcases of clothes into my new wardrobe. Moving into a new apartment involves heavy work! At least it forces you to tidy up, cleaning out - and revealing hidden gems. Tried and tested out clothes I had forgot about. With a pair of scissors, this skirt fit much better! I prefer it short:) The rest of the outfit is more or less random findings that I threw on.

iPhone – youPhone…

...we all phone for iPhone!
Finally my iPhone is here. Now I am officially one of Steve Jobs' disciples. Oh well.

Sweet Monday

Don't let the Monday blues hit you. Yes, the weekend is over, but no need to drown your sorrows in cold water. I prefer to light a candle and snuggle up in front of my iMac with a seasonal vanilla espresso and home made biscotti - before hitting the gym. Happy Monday!

Biscotto is "twice baked" italian cookies that comes in an endless amount of variations. Not too sweet and not too greasy - just the prefect accessory to your tea or espresso.
I opted for the below recipe that I found in an old issue of Maison Mat og Vin. As usual I made my own twist to it by adding a few tablespoons of freshly squeezed orange juice and swapping dark chocolate with white.

Delizioso!

My Home for Sale

Selling clothes on Finn.no is something I am familier with. Selling my apartment, however, feels completely different. Lots of emotions involved, more than I anticipated! This has been my home for the past five years, but now it is time to let it go. Hopefully, someone will like it as much as I do - and is willing to place a bid. SO excited!

Saturday night: Julebord

Broke in the festive season with a night out with a bunch of friends. After eating lots of traditional seasonal food (Stick meat and lutefisk) at Østkantfolk, we spent the rest of the night dancing to 50's and 60's music at Olympen!

Mixing Chanel with budget? No problem. My bodycon lace dress from Cubus cost only 199,-, but paired with my sparkling necklace by Otazu and Chanel bag, no one could tell the price:)

Olympen

Waiting for the bus...
Cashmere shawl by Acne and silk/wool mittens by Oleana (Norwegian design) help keeping the cold out.

Last night at Gyro

Donkeyboys!

Had a great time at party at Gyro last night: Lots of good music and talented artists. Here's my outfit of the night.
Outfit details:
Blouse: Lindex (bought at their Markveien store opening). Belt: Sonia Rykiel pour H&M. Jeans: Kima (Norwegian design)

Love the decorations - even at the restrooms!

Weekend in Stavanger

Just got back from my weekend in Stavanger. Had a great time with my sister who invited my to join this  weekend course in Iyenga yoga at Yoga Yoga. The yoga teacher there, Bodil, was really talented so I learned a lot. I feel pretty soar after 7 hours bending and stretching, though, but I guess that is a good thing.
Here are a few snapshots (none from the yoga classes, I'm afraid):

Beauty enhancers on display

Halloween!

Pumpkin soup with roasted pumpkin seeds. Yummy and loaded with vitamins!

Watching old school movie:
"Frida - med hjerte i hånden" gave us a good laugh and a walk down the memory lane. The clothes and style from the 1991 - oh la la!

Airam & Maria

Airam: All right! We finally have internet again, woho! Time to blog. It’s been such a long time, this ought to be a truly EPIC post.

Maria: How do you write an EPIC blog post? Can’t we just tell everyone we’re alive and we’re happy and we got the best birthday present ever (a KINDLE! We do have the best, kindest, craziest Boyfriend/Cookie/best friends) and how we miss playing music, but really like living in Oslo?

Airam: Don’t be such a sissy, we have to work to make this post really EPIC. Remember, work? Being unemployed sure makes the girls lazy.

Maria: Hey, we’re not that unemployed, we’ve been offered a part-time job as a vocal teacher!

Airam: Well, you know. We’ve been sitting in this apartment an awful lot lately, except for when we stroll around town looking at pretty things and *cough* occasionally buy them, like that maxi dress and the skinny jeans.

Maria: Stop accusing me, you love those things just as much as I do. Besides, I’m sure our readers will agree they are fantastic.

Airam: If you ever get around to taking those pictures to show them, that is…

Maria: It’s too dark now, anyway.

Airam: You’re just procrastinating.

Maria: You are, too!

Airam: Are you forgetting how we’ve gained a whole lot of new followers through Bloglovin’ lately? The least we can do as a thank you is write a new post.

Maria: I know! I’m trying, I’m trying, but our fingers are sticky –

Airam: from all that chocolate!

Maria: – and it’s too dark for photos and this has to be an EPIC post, remember?

Airam: Yeah. TOTALLY epic. We should fix the design, too. We’ve been talking about it since April.

Maria: Argh! Isn’t it enough to say we’re back and think our readers are lovely? Settle for writing a post instead of an EPIC one?

Airam: *annoyed *Oh, I suppose, if that’s the best we can do.

Maria: You, readers, are lovely. And the blog is back now.

Airam: Promise to write a better post tomorrow, at least? We can tell them about our new face serum from Lush, or show them those new dresses.

Maria: Only if I’m allowed to watch makeup tutorials on YouTube for the rest of the night. And drink the rest of the Pepsi.

Airam: Fine. *long pause* Can I join you?

Maria: Well, if you must. Go get the Pepsi, kitten!

Life In Oslo

It’s my second week here, Boyfriend came yesterday and I’m applying for jobs like a mad person. Still no internet, but I’ve found a lovely café with free WiFi, so I’ll keep you up to date whenever I can. I know some of you are very curious to see my new place, so here we go!

These are my very first pair of properly red shoes, and they make me happy every time I see them.

I know my closet looks insanely tidy – I can assure you this is not its normal state, but as most of my clothes are still at my mother’s, this is all I’ve got. I’m becoming very good at accessorizing.

Yesterday’s to-do list, and it’s my pleasure to say I’ve done everything on it (except for one little thing, but that’s no hurry).

Isn’t she a beauty? The only problem is that I’ll probably end up killing her. Unintentionally, of course.

The kitchen. The steps to the left lead up to a tiny attic.

I bought these at a market on Sunday, I like that they look a little dangerous, but still pretty.

Yes, I took a picture of my breakfast, simply because the colours were so pretty. I promise this won’t turn into a food-blog, though!

Bathroom. It’s so light and airy you just can’t believe it! My first day alone I had to sit on the floor and paint my toe nails, just to enjoy all the space properly.

The living room, which transforms into my bedroom at night. It’s a work in progress, but it definitely has potential.

Outside the windows there is this enormous tree, which filters the light during the day and protects me from curious eyes at night. It’s almost like living in a forest, except once I leave my apartment I’m smack in the middle of everything. I really don’t think it could get any better than this. When are you coming home, Cookie? The tree says hi.

OSLO

Oslo is…

… walking down four flights of stairs, stepping out of my front door and being smack in the middle of life.

… learning to drink coffee.

… watching incredibly stylish, inspiring people on the street every day.

… finding tiny vintage shops just a block away from home, and loving them all.

… looking for a job, ordering internet and power and insurance, assembling furniture and choosing curtains.

… the most perfect maxi dress and cat-eye sunglasses (pictures to come!).

… feeling alone, but mostly in a good way.

… the smell of spices from the indian restaurant next door.

… two hundred and seventy new posts in Bloglovin’.

… no internet at home, but at a small café 50 meters away from my door.

… wonderful!

Not Homeless Any More!

See those papers in my hand? They’re saying I have an apartment in Oslo with my sister Cookie – happy papers indeed! We’re renting, of course, and will be moving in next week. The price is high, but it’s completely worth it. Just look at the kitchen!

Cookie was happy, too, naturally. Not only because of the apartment, but because she had to buy five pairs of dancing shoes (including pointe shoes) for her studies.

I can hardly wait to fly down and get started on my life there, but there’s still a week to go and some things to sort out. I need a job quite desperately, and I’m also sad because it means leaving darling Boo, my band and Boyfriend behind in Tromsø. Still, it had to be done, I felt like I was wasting away up here, and Oslo will be a fresh start. Fortunately, we do live in the 21st century, so they’ll be just a few hours away by plane.

What do you think of my new “watermark”, by the way? Maja made something similar for her photos and I absolutely loved the idea, so I stole it (with permission, of course) and adapted it to include my url. I still need to work out a few kinks, but I like the concept a lot!

Darlings!

It’s been too long, I know! Life is crazy at the moment – when other lucky ones are on vacation or playing in the sea, I’m simultaneously looking for an apartment and a job in Oslo (I might as well be searching for the holy grail). Tomorrow Cookie and I are going to Oslo, hopefully it will make the hunt a little easier. I just wanted to let you know that I’m still here, and I’ll get back to blogging regularly as soon as my life settles down just a little bit.

Oh, and big kisses to those of you who answered my survey, it was incredibly helpful! It’ll definitely help with the makeover I’m working on – the picture above is a teaser of what’s to come, by the way… In the meantime, I thought I’d give you a chance to make wishes for future posts -

is there anything you’d like me to write about?

I’m Back!

Internet decided to suddenly run away for a little while, which meant no blogging for a long time. I do hope you’ll forgive my absence? A more proper post is on its way, I just wanted to drop by and let you know I’m still here. In the meantime, here are a few things to keep you busy:

♮ I found this trailer through Pearls In Your Hair, and immediately knew I’ll have to go Never Let Me Go the first day it hits the cinemas in whatever city I’m in at the time. The bad news is I’ll have to wait for October, maybe even longer as Norway is sometimes stupid when it comes to premiere dates. The good news is that it’s based on a book (by Kazuo Ishiguro), which I’ll read as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Topshop launched their sale today. You are all warned. And if anybody wanted to give me a little something to make up for the lousy weather we’ve been having, the Bonjour Body and the Lace Frill Half Slip would do the job perfectly.

♮ My favourite places to waste time nowadays are Regretsy (showcasing the most incredibly ugly/weird/creepy things you’ll ever find on Etsy), FML (you’ll quickly understand why it’s called Fuck My Life) and Not Always Right (if you’ve ever had to deal with customers of some sort, you’ll feel right at home).

See you soon, kittens!

Big News!

It’s snowing in Tromsø! In JUNE!

Well, fine, those aren’t the big news – although it’s true, it’s hardly sensational. This is Tromsø, after all. The real big news are:

1. I’ve finished my last exam, which means I’ve finished my entire education, which means I’ll now have to… find a time machine and go back five years? Or find a job, I suppose.

2. I’m moving to Oslo with my sister Cookie. Today we got the perfect apartment (really, it is gorgeous, I’ll show you when we – *chills* – move in). My Brain is still refusing to believe this, but then again, it’s still refusing to accept that I’ll never be a natural redhead with curls.

I’m not sure how to handle all this change, to be completely honest, especially as Boyfriend will be staying in Tromsø for at least six months (Brain is desperately repressing this thought, as it knows Heart might turn suicidal if it finds out). I’ll keep blogging, though, so don’t fret, m’beauties! I’m planning a rather major change in the blog design during the summer, so there’s no need to panic if things start looking a little… experimental around here.

Change is a good thing. Right?

Lately in Pictures

The nails for my vocal exam. Very sparkly, quite time-consuming and slightly unpractical for everyday wear (the glitter won’t stay completely flat, not even after seven (!) layers of topcoat).

My drummer’s set list for today’s vocal exam. The numbers represent “bpm” (beats per minute), and yes, that’s my lipstick mark. I did that on all the programs to give them a more personal twist.

My Saturday was like this. Ah, simple life.

The skies at 11 p.m. yesterday. Northern Norway is very pretty nowadays, with the midnight sun and all.

Stage Outfits!

Stage Outfit: Overload

Stage Outfit: Overload by mariaairam

Exams are coming up, and for music students this usually involves playing a show or two. Playing shows means being on stage, which brings up the eternal challenge of picking out a stage outfit. Fortunately I’ve learnt a few things the past years – no more clothes that can slide around or look transparent in the stage lights…

Stage Outfit: Grey Diamonds

Stage Outfit: Grey Diamonds by mariaairam

Things that look good on stage:

♮Sparkly or shiny things, such as diamonds, sequins and studs. Even the cheapest, tackiest sequins can look wonderful on stage.

♮Clothes that move well, especially wide skirts or flowy sleeves. Extra important if you play music that requires head banging or dancing in general.

♮Fabrics that are either shiny or slightly transparent, as the come alive under the stage lights.

♮Bold or pale colours – black is good for things that shouldn’t get too much attention (like a basic skirt or pants), but a black top will often disappear into the (black) background. Not a good thing for a lead singer/player.

♮Simple, exaggerated designs and silhouettes. The audience is usually too far away to be able to appreciate tiny details, but a good shape will be visible no matter what.

♮A little more makeup than usual, as stage lights wash out features. Lipstick is rather a must, otherwise lips tend to look flesh-coloured. False lashes are a good way to exaggerate the eyes.

Stage Outfit: Attention!

To be avoided at any cost:

♮Anything that doesn’t fit properly. You’ll spend half your concentration being irritated at that strap/waistband/sleeve, which can ruin the experience for both you and the audience. Not to mention that watching performers fidget with their clothes or accessories is incredibly distracting.

♮Transparent skirts or dresses. Make a friend watch the sound check and make sure no knickers can be seen.

♮Showing too much skin. Yes, you can get away with some flaunting, but don’t overdo it.

♮High heels – unless you’ve spent the two previous weeks practicing walking/bending over/walking stairs/dancing in them, and mastered all these things.

♮Too tight clothes. Some of stage light comes directly from above, which is very unforgiving, especially around the bra-area.

♮Accessories that make noise (stacked metal bracelets or complicated earrings) or can get tangled up in your clothes or hair somehow.

The ultimate test: if you can roll around in bed, run up and down some stairs and pick something up from the floor without having to adjust your outfit, then you’re good to go!

Today in Pictures

11:43 am. Waking up to what’s practically a blizzard. Yes, snow. In April. Tromsø is brutal.

1:00 pm. Time to put on a face. Can’t be bothered to do much because of previously mentioned blizzard, but can at least smell good.

2:58 pm. This is one of the rehearsal rooms at my school. People spend a lot of time in here, and I’ve started doing the same as exams are approaching.

3:01 pm. Rehearsal essentials (from left to right): MacBook Pro, throat lozenges (my voice has been rather sore lately), lip balm, my access card to the school, a portable recorder, water.

4:34 pm. Real comfort food for dinner: pasta, rucola, bacon, onion and a cream sauce. Yum.

6.04 pm and the rest of the day – composing. I have to arrange a song for various woodwinds and brass instruments, plus vocals. Oh, and it has to be done by Friday, which means I’m almost in trouble. Almost, but I’ll make it work.

Having a boyfriend with a 27″ iMac, Logic Pro (it’s a recording application), a midi keyboard and good speakers is so much help. Now I just need to create something. *looking around in search of muse*

Oh, and by the way, tomorrow I have a sweet little surprise for you. I really do hope you’ll like it.

Tuesday Things

♮Mum and I managed to jump on a plane home yesterday (Huzzah!), and today I travelled back to Tromsø. It’s snowing here.

♮I won a gorgeous purple nail polish (“Grape Pop” from China Glaze) in Cathrine’s giveaway in her blog Serendipitycat. She even included a very sweet card she’d made herself – thank you, darling!

♮I seem to be in a beauty product period again, so you can expect some posts about a new shampoo/conditioner I bought, a shower oil and a hand lotion with SPF 15 – and some other things.

♮Having a girl’s night in tonight. Hopefully there will be chocolate, and maybe some pictures?

♮I’ve just realized I’ve got 45 followers on Bloglovin’, and it makes me dizzy. THANK YOU.

♮The movie “The Secret Life of Bees” is a must-see! Dakota Fanning seems to be my new girl crush.
